Retrofit Headlights: Build Your Own Custom Housing
Pop open a stock headlight and you'll find one of two things: a real projector already staring back at you, or a reflector bowl just bouncing light off a bare bulb. That single difference decides almost everything else about a retrofit. If you're trying to figure out what you actually have before you spend money, start here and route yourself into the right parts instead of guessing.
Swap a halogen reflector for a real projector like the Morimoto mled 2.0 and the beam changes from a diffused blob into a sharp, defined cutoff line. That's a night and day difference our techs see every time they open a housing. Here is the catch though: if your factory setup already came with an LED projector, your upgrade path shrinks fast, since there's no bulb to swap and no easy projector-for-projector swap either. If your factory housing is HID, you can often reuse your factory ballasts, igniters, and HID bulbs when you bolt in a new projector. Know which housing you're starting from before you buy anything.
