HID Lights: Bulbs, Ballasts, and Kits That Fit
Your truck or SUV came with a factory HID system, and now a bulb has died or the beam has gone soft and yellow instead of white. So you need the right replacement bulb, the right ballast, or both, without guessing at part numbers that do not match your housing. This is where we keep D-series bulbs, aftermarket ballasts, and complete Hylux HID Systems built to drop into OE-style HID headlights.
When we ran a GTR Lighting Ultra 2 LED bulb against factory HID output on our own bench, it matched a 55 watt HID and beat a 35 watt HID outright, and 35 watts is what most factory HID systems actually run at. For reference, a 35 watt HID makes around 3,500 lumens versus roughly 900 to 1,000 from a stock halogen. Worth noting, not every HID setup needs a relay harness either. GTR Lighting's Ultra Series HID ballasts skip that step entirely, which most HID kits on the market still require.
Still, HID is not the only path forward.
If your headlight housing already runs a factory HID system, replacing the bulb and ballast is usually all it takes to get your light back to new. Remember the ballast is the part that steps vehicle power up to the high voltage arc that fires the xenon bulb, so a weak or failing ballast shows up as flicker and color shift before the bulb itself quits. Then, if you are starting from halogen and weighing a full conversion instead, I would look at our HID Conversion Kits before buying ballasts and bulbs separately, since a full kit lays out everything a swap actually needs.
