Third Brake Lights Built to Get You Seen
Factory third brake lights are almost always an afterthought, a single dim incandescent T15 bulb doing a job that deserves better. The person behind you needs a fast, obvious signal that you are stopping, not a faint red glow they catch a half second too late. Whether you are chasing more visibility, more bed light for late night loading, or just a cleaner look back there, this is where truck owners start.
What we have learned from installs: Morimoto's X3B reuses the factory mounting points and plugs into the stock harness, so there is no cutting or splicing involved. It is built around quad 3D TIR brake optics and rail-style bed lighting powered by 3W LEDs, and it carries a 5-year warranty, which is longer than most of what else exists in this category. It is also designed to comply with DOT and SAE standards for rear-facing lamps. Worth noting: the optional rapid-flash module Morimoto sells is plug and play, but only with the X3B housing. It is not designed to work with your stock third brake light, so if you are trying to add a flasher without upgrading the housing first, this is not the shortcut.
