How We Run a Product Comparison

Most buying guides pick a winner based on price, brand name, or paid placement. Our comparisons work differently. Both products get installed on the same vehicle, measured with a digital lux meter at a fixed 25-foot distance, and in many cases scored across multiple measurement points for a complete beam profile. Nobody pays to win. The data decides.

Our team has published over 5,000 product videos and cataloged more than 9,000 products across headlights, fog lights, off-road pods, tail lights, and interior lighting. That library is what makes these comparisons possible: we are not guessing which products to test because we have already handled, installed, and measured most of them.

The most common question we get is LED vs HID: which technology is actually better for your car? The answer depends on your vehicle, your housing type, and what you are trying to accomplish. We broke it down with side-by-side measurements so you can make the call with real information.

Once you know which technology fits your vehicle, the comparisons below narrow it down further. Every test is filmed in full and published on our YouTube channel so you can check the footage, see the beam patterns, and verify the numbers yourself before buying anything. When our testing shows that a factory OEM part outperforms the aftermarket alternatives, we say so. On the 2016-2023 Toyota Tacoma, for example, the OEM LED housing tested brighter than nearly every aftermarket headlight assembly we measured, including options that cost more. We publish those results the same way we publish everything else.
