2017-2020 Ford Raptor LED Lighting Upgrades

The biggest lighting change for this generation is the introduction of OEM LED headlights. Unlike earlier halogen-style F-150 setups, the 2017-2020 Raptor uses full LED headlights. That means the light source, optics, DRL, and electronics are built into the headlight assembly. You will not be able to use replacement LED headlight bulbs on this truck, so if you want better headlight output, you need a full headlight assembly.

Fitment is another important part of this platform. The standard F-150 changed front-end and headlight designs in 2018, but the Raptor kept the earlier 2015-2017 F-150 headlight shape through 2020. Because of that, 2017-2020 Raptor headlight fitment is different from a standard 2018-2020 F-150. If you are upgrading the headlights, the assembly needs to be built for the Raptor or the 2015-2017 F-150 front end.

The Raptor also has strong upgrade potential outside of the headlights. Fog pocket kits, reverse lights, third brake lights, tail lights, ditch lights, grille lights, and bumper lights all improve different parts of the truck's lighting package. Some upgrades are for better road visibility, some are for trail use, and some bring the rest of the truck up to the same modern standard as the headlights.

Most of the issues we see with 2017-2020 Ford Raptor lighting upgrades come from headlight serviceability, front-end fitment, fog pocket setup, off-road beam pattern choice, and tail light compatibility with BLIS. This truck came with OEM LED headlights, so brighter replacement headlight bulbs are not an option. The headlights need to be replaced as complete assemblies, the fog and off-road lights need to fit the Raptor bumper correctly, and the tail lights need to accept the factory BLIS module so the blind spot monitoring system keeps working.

For headlights, the Morimoto XB LED headlights are the main upgrade. They replace the factory LED housing with quad Kuria-optic projectors, a dual Bi-LED setup, Osram-powered DRLs and turn signals, and a plug-and-play harness with the required fuse tap. Compared to stock, the big improvement is the beam pattern. You get better width, stronger intensity, and better light distribution down the road and off to the sides. They are available with white or amber DRLs, so you can keep the look clean or go with the amber Raptor-style front end.

Fog lights are one of the best upgrades on this truck because the bumper gives you room to do it right. The Diode Dynamics SS3 fog kit uses six SS3 pods, with two SAE fog pods and four combo pods, so you get controlled fog lighting for the road and more output for off-road use. The Morimoto 4Banger fog kit is more configurable, with Wide, Combo, and Spot beam patterns, NCS or HXB output levels, and white or yellow output.

Off-road lighting needs to be placed correctly or it turns into glare and wasted output. Ditch lights should help with trail edges, road shoulders, and side visibility. Grille and bumper lights should add forward reach. The Morimoto 4Banger A-Pillar kit works well here because you can build it around Wide, Combo, or Spot beams, and the brackets are made for clean wire routing. For forward output, Baja Designs grille mount systems and Diode Dynamics bumper light bar kits give the Raptor real distance lighting without making the front end look thrown together.

Tail lights are more straightforward, but BLIS matters. Morimoto XB LED tail lights work with 2017-2020 Raptors equipped with blind spot monitoring. You transfer the factory BLIS module into the new tail light assembly, so the truck keeps that system working. They also add modern 3D optics for the brake, turn, and parking lights, plus stronger LED reverse lights. If backing up at night is the problem, the optional Backup Boost Bar adds 2,700 lumens of controlled reverse light.
