LED Headlight Bulbs & Upgrades
The Right LED Headlight Bulb, Matched to Your Truck
A customer once called us after installing a "universal fit" LED headlight bulb kit he found online, the beam pattern was a mess, half his high beam scattered into the tree line instead of down the road. We got him a bulb that actually matched his housing geometry and the difference was immediate. That is the whole reason this page exists: not every LED headlight bulb works in every headlight, even when the base looks the same.
Stock halogen headlights typically put out somewhere around 900 to 1,000 lumens. A 35 watt HID system jumps that to roughly 3,500 lumens, and a 55 watt ballast can push closer to 5,000. In our own testing, some of today's best LED headlight bulbs now land in that same 55 watt HID range, but the chip position inside the bulb matters more than the marketing photos suggest. Move that LED chip even a few millimeters off from where the original halogen filament sat, and the same "bright" bulb can throw a clean beam in one housing and a glaring, unusable mess in another. That is why we test bulbs in the actual housing before we recommend them, not just on a lumen meter on a bench.
Some LED bulbs run hot enough that they need a bit of extra support to run reliably on factory wiring, especially on vehicles with a computer-controlled low-power circuit. If your headlights flicker or your dash throws an error after an LED swap, that is usually a wiring issue, not a bad bulb, and it is worth checking our PWM & Resistors before you assume the bulb is defective.
Halogen, HID, or LED: Pick By What Your Housing Can Handle
Not every housing wants the same upgrade. Halogen bulbs are still the simplest swap and the safest bet if you just need factory output back. HID kits bring a genuine jump in brightness but often need a ballast and harness added to the mix, and they are not a fit for every housing. LED headlight bulbs have closed most of that brightness gap without the extra ballast, so long as the chip layout suits your specific reflector or projector. Even so, cheap LED bulbs cut corners on heat management, and a bulb that cooks itself inside the housing is worse than the halogen it replaced.
Already know you need a full HID setup instead? Start with our HID Conversion Kits or HID Bulbs & Ballasts. Sticking with stock output for now, or need a factory-style replacement, Halogen Bulbs covers that. Need the harness or connector to finish the job, Wiring & Parts has what most installs call for.
Bottom line, we run these bulbs in our own housings before we put them on the site. That is not a slogan, it is how we build the recommendations below.
